Become a part of the Schweiger Ranch Volunteer Team and help preserve and bring to life a piece of Douglas County history.
Schweiger Ranch volunteers are a critical part of our organization, and help further our mission: TO PROVIDE DIVERSE, RECREATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO FOSTER AN UNDERSTANDING AND ENJOYMENT OF THE AREA’S CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE THROUGH DISPLAYS, DEMONSTRATIONS, INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL EVENTS FOR THE GREATER COMMUNITY. Volunteers are engaged in preserving and sharing Schweiger Ranch’s unique story.
We offer many ways to be involved, from monthly, weekly, daily, occasional or one-time help. Minimum age to volunteer without a parent/guardian is 16 yrs. Application requirements vary by position and are noted within each area. All current openings are listed below. Check back frequently for new openings.
Animal Care
Love animals? Our animal husbandry is growing. Volunteers assist with the feeding and care of our goats and chickens. Responsibilities include feeding, providing fresh water, grooming and general care of the animals. Daily, weekly or monthly opportunities available for mornings and evenings. Shift times are flexible. Must be comfortable working with livestock and able to lift up to 40 lbs., commit to 2 shifts per month for a one-year term. Minimum age required: 18 Years old. Under 18 yrs may volunteer with a parent/guardian who also completes the application requirements. | Requirements: Application, liability waiver, background screening (with $25.50 fee paid directly to screening provider) and training.
Event Help
General volunteers are needed to help facilitate education and special events throughout the year. Opportunities include greeters, guest counters, minor setup/tear down, refreshments, campfire attendants, parking attendants, line attendants, etc. Shifts vary by event and are typically in 2-3 hour increments. | Requirements: Liability waiver
Greeters & House Attendants
Schweiger Ranch is open to the public for self-guided tours on the 3rd Saturday of every month from April – November. We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to greet visitors to Schweiger Ranch, provide literature and general directions on the property. Assist with the minor check-in station setup/teardown. Opportunities are available from 12:30-2 pm or 2-4:30 pm. | Requirements: Application and Liability Waiver
Grounds & Building
Enjoy the Colorado sunshine and lend a hand preserving and caring for the Ranch and animals. Opportunities vary each month for general clean-up, repairs and maintenance, garden maintenance, planting, weed mitigation, barn and animal area clean-out, and inside cleaning of the historic house. Cleanup days are scheduled on varying Saturdays each month weather permitting, and are typically 2-hour shifts. | Requirements: Liability Waiver
Historic Demonstrations
Do you enjoy dressing up and showing off your crafting, butter-churning, blacksmith or ranching skills? Demonstrations provide a glimpse into the 19th-century rural life on a ranch as well as provide hands-on experience for visitors during educational and special events. | Requirements: Application and liability waiver.

Tour Guides / Docents
Tell the story of Schweiger Ranch and guide visitors through the living history museum and buildings. Tour Guides are needed for our guided history tours, education and special events throughout the year. | Requirements: 1 year commitment, application, liability waiver, background screening and training.
